Tire Cake in Buttercream- Cake Decorating- How To

This cake was tough to make! Not because of the skill involved, but because of the shear agony of destroying a perfectly good Wedding Cake! Every decorator knows that a large sigh of relief when all of the borders and flowers are perfectly placed on a cake, especially one the size of a Wedding Cake. This design calls for chocolate meant to look like mug to be splattered all over the side of the cake. For any decorator the act of splattering anything all over a newly finished Wedding Cake is horrifying!

In the end this is a fun design! It's great to say you've done at least once. The tire part of this design is really cool and can be done quickly without the use of fondant. It would be a great design for a boys birthday cake with the addition of some hot wheels. Any car lover would enjoy this design as well.

Dipped Strawberry Box Cake- Cake Decorating

I wish this blog had Smell-a-vision! This cake smells amazing! With the dark chocolate dipped strawberries and chocolate icing it's irresistible! It's also incredibly beautiful for a small stacked cake. It's perfect for a small Wedding Cake or sweet Birthday Cake as well. The biggest problem with making this design is having the will power not to eat the strawberries before they are placed on the cake!

Skull and Cactus Cake - Southwestern Style-Cake Decorating

3D Cake Designs in Buttercream can be fun and easy. This Skull and Cactus Design is great for guys who like to hunt or just a Southwestern Fan. The Skull is built on cake as well as some of the Cactus.

I used only 3 Decorating Tips for this Design. A coupler, a Quick Icing Tip and a #124 Rose Tip. So nothing special needed.

Hawaiian Scene Cake with Plumeria- Cake Decorating

Every Decorator needs a quick Hawaiian cake design and this is it! Its a combination of simple borders and an Airbrush Stencil design. Layers of stencils, borders and a Hawaiian themed flower don't need to take more that a few minutes if you are skilled with piping borders. It's as simple as combining them and framing the stenciled design.
This short video shows the techniques shown here. Easy for a pro or a beginner as well.

Whimsical Horse Cake- Cake Decorating- Buttercream

Creating a Whimsical Horse Head Cake can be a challenge. The techniques used here are all quite simple, the challenge is getting the shape right to start with. I recommend doing an "Image" search on Google for Horse Drawings. Then have it enlarged to the size you need. In this video I show how to cut and sculpt this cake by using a hand drawn stencil. I used the airbrush to add color and shape as well as a whimsical flare.

Bouquet on a Cupcake- Cake Decorating- video

One of my viewers on You Tube requested a Bouquet on a Cupcake tutorial. It was a great idea! It  makes the perfect one person cake, but doesn't look like just a cupcake. It makes a lovely small gesture that still is beautiful and  a "whole" cake.

Placing a cupcake in a pretty cup adds another little gift as well as height to this design. Filling in the bottom of the cup would also be a delicious surprise.

Spring Bouquet In a Candy Dish- Buttercream -Cake Decorating

This is a fun and interesting design to make. I love the idea of making a cake in a candy dish. I have so many glass dishes just lying around my house and I never thought of making a cake in them.

One of our Friends on my face book page "The art of Frosting" shared a similar design with me. She said many Russian Decorators uses this method.

Water Lillie's Cake- Cake Decorating- Video

There is just something ethereal about Water Lilies. They are graceful and delicate and sweet. This design is also very versatile. It could be used for a little girl or a Mother's Day. It would also be very appropriate for a Farewell or Congratulations Cake.

These flowers are piped directly on the cake with 2 different sized Mum tips. The Lilly Pad beneath is piped with a large Rose Tip.

This flower would work well on a cake alone as an accent as well.

Ice Cream Sandwich Cake- Cake Decorating

The Ice Cream Sandwich Cake is a Viewer suggestion. As it turns out it's a good one too! The Sandwiches combined with some Raspberry Cream and Ganache creates a delicious dessert. Decorating it in a classic and fancy style is just a fun and unexpected twist!

I left the top of this cake open like a dessert cake. It's a perfect spot for a Happy Birthday or any other sentiment. This "cake" also works great just as a Dessert Cake.

The Lace medallions are made with Pink Candy Melt.

Little Mermaid Barbie Doll Cake- Cake Decorating- How To

This Little Mermaid Cake was such Fun to make! The Candy Melt accessories were really a kick to come up with. They are quick and easy and if you have something that doesn't work, you simply melt it down and start again!

.
The Tail comes out super thin almost sheer and add a little glitter and you have a real "stand out"! It's totally 3D and very light weight.

The Starfish is piped on but the rest of the shells and waves are made with Candy Melt as well. The waves are freehand and the shells are done with a mold. Simple and Fun!
