Dipped Strawberry Box Cake- Cake Decorating

I wish this blog had Smell-a-vision! This cake smells amazing! With the dark chocolate dipped strawberries and chocolate icing it's irresistible! It's also incredibly beautiful for a small stacked cake. It's perfect for a small Wedding Cake or sweet Birthday Cake as well. The biggest problem with making this design is having the will power not to eat the strawberries before they are placed on the cake!

Cinderella's Carriage Cake- Cake Decorating- video

There is little more magical than Cinderella's Carriage. Leah and I jumped at the chance to create this fun cake idea. I had the idea for weeks before actually jumping in to making the design. I had to contemplate HOW to make this in a way that it would be stable  and sturdy as well as delicate and beautiful.
The Horses are made of Cand Melt ( White Chocolate). They are quite delicate because of the legs, but easy to make. They are traced on parchment, outlined and filled. We had to make many of these to be sure we had 2 that didn't break.

We wanted the carriage to have the appearance of transforming into Gold, so we airbrushed the "pumpkin" and added gold to the wheels.

Elsa, Frozen, Doll Cake - Video

This version Elsa in a Doll Cake congers the feeling of wind a snow blowing through the many layers of Elsa's skirt.
The Cake is a single layer 8 inch round and a 5 inch round staked. Both Layers are split and filled. Marshmallows create the lift of the ruffles adding volume without weight.

Flower Pot Baby Shower Cake- Cake Decorating- Butter Cream

This Vase or Flower Pot Cake was made as a Baby Shower Cake for a Baby Named Poppy. The Challenge was to incorporate Poppies, which are such a strong and bright flower, into a cake for a Baby. I came up with this idea of piping small Poppies on a straw and placing them in a Vase. The entire cake is make with Pastry Pride Whip Topping, even the Poppies, Butter Cream would be the other alternative. To see how I created this design, click here on the video.

How To Train Your Dragon Cake- Photos and Video

Stormfly, from the How to Train Your Dragon Series, was actually quite difficult for me to figure out how to create. The cake is intended to look like the Dragon's Nest with different colored wings and ice around the base.

I originally pictured more wings and in fact made many more pairs that I didn't use. They as well as the ice are made from cany melts.

I wanted the dragon to appear that it is peering over the side of the nest. I had to figure out how to secure the the weight of the head. I ended up using a giant marshmallow for the base of the head attached to a skewer.

The overall effect was quite dramatic! These huge looming wings really added to this effect!

Cupcake Barbie Doll Cake- How To - Cake Decorating

Cupcake Barbie is the Simplest and Quickest of Barbie Cakes. She's perfect for a beginner or a more experienced decorator in need of a quick and pretty cake.

Though Quick and Easy, no one would every guess you can make this in less than 15 minutes. In fact you don't even have to bake. Store bought cupcakes even pre- iced would work fine for this cupcake beauty!

I love the way the back of this "cake" looks like a flower! So Pretty!

Little Mermaid Barbie Doll Cake- Cake Decorating- How To

This Little Mermaid Cake was such Fun to make! The Candy Melt accessories were really a kick to come up with. They are quick and easy and if you have something that doesn't work, you simply melt it down and start again!

.
The Tail comes out super thin almost sheer and add a little glitter and you have a real "stand out"! It's totally 3D and very light weight.

The Starfish is piped on but the rest of the shells and waves are made with Candy Melt as well. The waves are freehand and the shells are done with a mold. Simple and Fun!

Hydrangea Flowers in Buttercream

Hydrangea is basically many little flowers together making one big flower. This is the progression of how I figured out how to make them in buttercream for this large Birthday Cake!
Here's the video that shows my process :
http://youtu.be/Abikks3QAzo

I love the way the Hydrangea's looked on this cake topper.

The final look turned out really pretty. I was pleased with the overall balance. The color scheme worked out well too.

This was the test cake to see how these colors and flowers would work together and to see if this was the scroll work I wanted to use.
This was the first test done on a small bowl.

Baby Butt and Blanket Cake in Buttercream

Baby Butt and Blanket Cake is an Adaptation of a cake normally done in Fondant.  A friend asked me to do this cake for his son's baby shower. He gave me a photo from the internet and I had to figure out what techniques to use to make it look like the photo but in Buttercream. I used Leah Larson's smoothing technique and plain cake donuts for the legs and feet. It was a fun project. In the video I take you along on my process of working it out.

Wisteria Cake and Wooden Cake Platter Video

I Collaborated with Carl from Woodshop.tv to make this Cake Stand. I then had to come up with a cake design that didn't overtake the cake plate but complimented it. I like the whimsy of the Wisteria with the woodsy of the cake stand.
